The Lundquist College’s MBA entrepreneurship specialization is among the top 50 programs in the world according to rankings complied by the business education publication Poets&Quants.
Poets&Quants partnered with Inc. Magazine for its second annual Top MBAs in Entrepreneurship listing. The rankings appear in the October 27 issue of Poets&Quants and the November 2020 issue of Inc. Magazine.
This recognition places the Oregon MBA #43 worldwide and #36 in the United States for entrepreneurship. Among entrepreneurship programs at public business schools, the college’s MBA placed #15 in the U.S. and #18 worldwide.
The rankings encompass both U.S.-based and international institutions and consider a school’s commitment to entrepreneurship and innovation in the form of accelerator space, venture funds available, and core classes dedicated to entrepreneurship.
Other factors in the ranking include:
- Percentage of MBA students launching businesses within three months of graduation between 2017 and 2019 (20 percent)
- Percentage of MBA elective courses with 100 percent of the curriculum focused on entrepreneurship or innovation (20 percent)
- The ratio of MBA students to accelerator space available to MBA students (10 percent)
- The ratio of MBA students to entrepreneurs-in-residence available to MBA students (10 percent)
- Total startup award money available to MBAs (10 percent)
- Percentage of MBA students in the school’s main student-run entrepreneurship club (10 percent)
- Percentage of full-time MBA faculty teaching an entrepreneurship or innovation course (5 percent)
- Percentage of MBA students taking venture capital or private equity roles within three months of graduation between 2017 and 2019 (5 percent)
- Percentage of core MBA courses with at least 50 percent of the curriculum focused on entrepreneurship or innovation (5 percent)
- Percentage of MBA student-run clubs focused on entrepreneurship or innovation (5 percent)
“This ranking places the UO MBA entrepreneurship program among the top schools for entrepreneurs around the world,” said Nathan Lillegard, MBA program manager for the Lundquist Center for Entrepreneurship, which facilitates the Oregon MBA’s entrepreneurship and innovation specialization.
“The success of our recent graduates is a testament to the community of faculty, advisors, mentors, and donors that support our programs. That UO community and the greater Oregon entrepreneurial ecosystem has shown how Ducks help Ducks move their ideas forward to grow their startups into companies. The team at the Lundquist Center, led by Andrew Nelson our academic advisor and associate VP for innovation and entrepreneurship, and my colleague Kate Harmon, undergraduate program manager, and director of cross campus engagement, have built programs to help all students on their entrepreneurial journey. This ranking serves as a great validation of those efforts.”
